You can come close to understanding what a loss might feel like but it’s not the same as having actually gone through it. A friend lost her son a few years ago and I felt such deep sorrow for her, was always there for her and she told me that I had helped by making it ‘normal’ to talk about him. I was thinking about how I would feel if I lost a child but I didn't come close to the reality of how she felt.
