On the one hand, everyone has experienced acting selfishly or manipulating a situation.  I've chosen the most beautiful plant available amongst those that are for sale at the garden store, every single time I've purchased a plant from the garden store.  This action is selfish.  I do not leave the most beautiful plant for the next person, out of some generosity of my heart. who like to say they just “give up". Sometimes, fairly regularly. Heck, I used to say it all the time until I hit about 25. But in the end? Most of us just keep going, just…not always with as much enthusiasm as we once did. You know what, though? That's OK. Nobody can be strong all the time. It is impossible. Overall, though? No. The world is not full of people who have given up. The world is full of people who are still fighting, and trying. If most of us had just given up, we would not be as socially polarized as we are now, nor as active in protests, and other forms of serious active living. So no. The people who have given up are the ones who are already gone, by their own choice, or actions, or will be in the future. The rest of us who are still here are still putting forth effort by breathing, getting out of bed still, eating, and still willfully participating in life.
