Into adult life. So it’s about their survival, just like with everyone. But their idea of themselves, their idea of the thing which needs to survive, and the situation they’re surviving in, is messed up, therefore their idea of what survival is is messed up. Their situation has changed but they’re still using early learnt, embedded in them, survival tactics. Those survival tactics actually cause them problems now. They make themselves out to be special, better (to get nice care, avoid horrible care). But that’s into lying territory. But they’re driven because it’s their survival. Things really get contradictory and messed up because it’s all smoke and mirrors now. Things bending back on itself. So now it’s about their “survival” not their survival.
Quote marks because it’s conceptual, ego, mental construction based now, the threat, the problem, their dangerous/conditional/sporadic caregiver is not an issue today anymore, maintenance of their lie about themselves. But, if they do things to “survive”, really dodgy things like breaking the law, then the upkeep of their lies does become closer to real survival than conceptual ego survival — escalation. Their lives will collapse if people who are associated with them, who believe the lie, find out they’re lying. They dig themselves, or were dug into (which of those is not entirely clear) a hole.
