Ok, I'm one of those people who can drink two cups of rich coffee and drop right off to sleep, then wake up ready to brew more. I drink coffee because I like it. Caffeine seems to have little medicinal effect on me. Decaf is OK, but doesn't taste as good. When we go on trips, we are certain to pack a decent coffee brewer in the car. No, we don't fly with one. TSA has issues, especially when they aren't being paid. They seem troubled by the grinder. One agent told me an unpleasant story about a ‘friend’ of Saddam Hussein. Saddam invited him over for coffee, but seems his finger accidently got lost in the grinder, and well, such instruments aren't all that welcome on planes these days. Over the years, I've learned a lot about coffee but the more I learn, the more questions I have. Frankly, I am not all that interested in the health benefits of coffee. I mean, if it had no benefits, I would drink it anyway.
Coffee is a great hobby. That's how I would pitch it to the skeptic or newcomer. True, it's not cheap, but its cheaper than golf. Coffee can become something of a lifestyle. The more you know, the more fun you have. Don't be surprised if one day you order a coffee roaster on Amazon Prime and set it up in the garage. You'll get the neighbor's attention. Better than the aroma of baking bread. The years will fly by as you search for the perfect roast complemented by the perfect grind. Did you know you can buy green coffee beans online? After which you go nuts tracking your package and feeling embittered by UPS’s promise to deliver it ‘by end of day’. In other words, 9:40 pm.
