Renge is action, Cause and effect. Some people liken it to a Lotus flower because it blooms and produces seeds at the same time. Its a good visual metaphor because it also lives by feeding off sediment in a pond which it purifies through its body transitioning into a beautiful white flower. In buddhism our actions (Renge) can effect on our environment and our environment can effect our actions. The circumstance and quality of our individual lives are determined by the causes and effects, both good and bad, that we accumulate through our thoughts words and actions. This is called our karma.

Not just on an practical intellectual level. I considered the practise a philosophy (a love of wisdom) rather that a religion. You are chanting for your inner wisdom to awaken, your not chanting to a god.
