who like to say they just “give up". Sometimes, fairly regularly. Heck, I used to say it all the time until I hit about 25. But in the end? Most of us just keep going, just…not always with as much enthusiasm as we once did. You know what, though? That's OK. Nobody can be strong all the time. It is impossible. Overall, though? No. The world is not full of people who have given up. The world is full of people who are still fighting, and trying. If most of us had just given up, we would not be as socially polarized as we are now, nor as active in protests, and other forms of serious active living. So no. The people who have given up are the ones who are already gone, by their own choice, or actions, or will be in the future. The rest of us who are still here are still putting forth effort by breathing, getting out of bed still, eating, and still willfully participating in life. That, by definition, means we haven't given up yet.
With that being said, most people have given up on certain things. Some have given up the idea of ever being rich or famous. Some have given up on certain political ideas, or social ideas. Others have given up hope of certain things, like finding true love, or finding anything in life to be passionate about. In some cases, however, it isn't, or wasn't about “giving up", it is about “letting go". There is a difference. One is about giving in, or admitting defeat, while the latter is about making a choice to choose your battles. Nobody can fight and win every battle they encounter in life. Nobody. Sometimes, you have to choose which battles you fight, and just let others go. Someone who feels compelled to fight every battle in the world today will quickly find themselves on the wrong side of the ground (6 feet under).
