If the above cases are not the case, then he WAS doing you a favor. He might happily do it for you, but its still a favor. I bet if you asked why he was mad, money wouldn't even be mentioned. He knew you could pay but he wanted to do something nice for you even though he was already going out of his way for you. You ruined it by being uncaring and disinterested then violent. He should not have driven like that with your kids, he should have pulled over, kicked you out of the car with your kids and told you to spend your precious money on a cab. Thats what I woulda done in that situation.
Do u know the surefire way to enrage most men? Ask for a favor, then be an inconsiderate dick to him when he is doing said favor. It all comes down to the golden rule, step in his shoes for a second. If someone, especally a friend did what you did, taking all the other factors involved, would you be pissed off? Don't sugarcoat it, explosions like that are usually the result of multipule incidences, not just one.
