His mother, by seventeen would sit and stay and that'd be about it.  For training a daschund (or any little dog, per the answers below) you need a schedule and rare deviations from that schedule.  If they know when to anticipate what, they tend to think that it's their own doing and are more willing to comply (i.e. bathroom trips, food, walks).
