The question is regarding what happens when a narcissist’s target shows themselves to be stronger than originally assumed . Instead of describing the rage and injustice of not only being found out meaning possible exposure and the vengeful hatred of injury, the very term ‘target’ has to be argued out of the room. Whether pre meditated or not, once you are the one the narcissist is fixating on and become the closest person to them you are* the target of their abusive behavior .
Narcissists are opportunists . They may have seen you on the social scene and been monitoring you , finding out about you, engrosiating , infiltrating especially if they have sociopathic tendencies too. They have calculated how much supply you could provide them with. They are assessing your potential of fuel to them. Don't tell me there's no such thing as a target* when they spend months pretending to be infatuated with the victim and convincing them they are ‘the same’ .
