When they do realise you are smarter or stronger than they thought or you are onto them then the knee jerk reaction kicks in to play victim and to try harder to control you , threaten you or scare you, try the trusty ‘this is all in your head, you make this all up’ bullshit… They will still be testing you to see how long they've got before they have to do the full discard . Nothing is off limits to the narcissist because they value nothing except their supply . Their discard of you is a carefully worked out ratio of how much fuel they can still drain from you and how much of a threat you pose to expose them. That depends on how well* you truly know them . They know deep down how much you may or may not have worked out . That depends how much you let on. The discard phase is the time when the narc is least in control of the situation . They cannot be sure of your next move so will generally strike first .

They will take no chances. If they start to think you may be smarter than you are letting on then the threats and scare tactics will escalate . They will temporarily lose their mind and make stupid mistakes in an attempt to make you look like the crazy one. They care only for themselves and if you are a threat to that then they will become the most vengeful deceitful duplicitous manipulating vile creature out there and yes, they think that it's an audience for one but people do* see it from the outside too. They see the patterns and they have eyes too. The narc thinks that the only person able to see their games is the person at home . Not the case. All narcs carry a deep sense of paranoia and it's not unfounded . The actual levels of paranoia wondering who has spoken to who and who knows what etc is pretty unimaginable .
